Rivergate Festival Promises "Hog Heaven"
Event Will Be Held in Downtown Tunica April 12-14
TUNICA, Mississippi (March 13, 2007)-For barbeque lovers and music fans, an event is coming to Tunica that promises a good time.
The Rivergate Festival, an annual event held in Downtown Tunica, will be from April 12-14. The theme this year is, "We're in Hog Heaven in 2007." Organizers say the good food and entertainment are always big draws for the festival.
"Since this is a Memphis in May sanctioned event, people from all over the U.S. will be coming to compete for the top barbeque titles," Lyn Arnold, president and CEO of the Tunica County Chamber of Commerce said. "And for everyone else, we will have three bands performing on Friday night, children's activities on Saturday, and vendors, barbeque, and Crawfish Alley the entire time."
While the smell of world-championship barbeque fills the Downtown Tunica air, festival goers have grown to love a Rivergate Festival mainstay - Crawfish Alley. Opening Thursday afternoon, the crawfish crew will be serving the best mudbugs in the Mid-South along with margaritas and cold beer.
The bands performing on Friday night are: The Memphis Blazers starting at 8:30, Interstate 55 coming on the stage at 9:30, and Larry Raspberry at 10:30. On Saturday, the children's events range from a Children's Grilling Contest to Fun Bounces to the famous "Running of the HOGS."
The Rivergate Festival is free to the public. To get to Downtown Tunica, take Highway 61 South. Go 10 minutes past the casino resort area. Take a right on River Road at the Blue and White Restaurant.
Tunica, an area where cotton, rice, soybean fields and catfish ponds still thrive, is "The South's Casino Capital." Located 30 minutes south of Memphis, Tunica welcomes more than 12 million visitors annually to its nine world-class casino resorts, with more than 6,300 new hotel rooms, over 40 restaurants, three championship golf courses, outdoor recreation, museums, outlet and antique shopping, and much more.
