Ashland Couple Wins Statewide Contest

TUNICA, Mississippi (March 9, 2007)-When Sheryl Brannan received an e-mail saying she'd won the one of the grand prizes for the Memphis Tunica giveaway, she almost deleted the message.

"I thought it was a spam e-mail because I never win any contest," she explained. "But then I remembered a few months ago I'd entered this Memphis Tunica giveaway contest, and I thought I should at least call the number to see if it was real."

So Sheryl Brannan called the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau, and she found out she'd been randomly selected out of the thousands of entries received.

"Our prize includes a $25 chip from all nine casinos totaling $225 in free chips, a free luxury room at Resorts Casino for three days/two nights, a $100 gift certificate to the outlet mall, free admission to the Tunica RiverPark museum, Graceland, Sun Studio, STAX museum, Memphis Zoo, Memphis Grizzles basketball tickets, a $100 shopping certificate at the Casino Factory Shoppes in Tunica, and a romantic dinner for two at Café Marie restaurant," she said.

Webster Franklin, president and CEO of the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau, said the contest was part of a joint campaign to remind Alabama residents that Memphis and Tunica are very close for a vacation.

"Our nine world-class casinos, championship golf courses, non-stop entertainment, sensational restaurants, and award-winning attractions make Tunica the perfect travel destination," Franklin said. "With Memphis only a 20 minute drive from Tunica, Memphis and Tunica are a winning combination for a great getaway."

Brannan says this is not the first time to come to Tunica with her husband, Steve, and it definitely won't be her last.

" Memphis has the music scene and museums my husband loves, and Tunica has the table games and slot machines that keep us entertained, so this is the perfect vacation for us," she said.

Perched high on a bluff overlooking the slow rolling Mississippi, Memphis marches to the beat of the Blues, of Stax-era Soul, of the countless neighborhood barbeque shacks and the King's own Graceland. It's the kind of city that spills up from the soil, lingers on the melancholy mojo of the best guitar you've ever heard. From music landmarks to restaurants, from the FedExForum to the acclaimed zoo, from the elegant hotels to the mystical nightclubs on legendary Beale Street, there's just something real about Memphis, an irresistible soul that's drawn people here for more than a century.
